Pets in every household

So many people around the world love to have pets or are already taking care of pets. In the Philippines, there are a lot of pets willing to be cared for, and people willing to care for pets.
Dog - common
Dogs are very common and great pets of Filipino households. They can be good playmates, companions, friends and guards. For Filipinos, size does not matter (at least when having pets). Many shops sell food, equipment and medicine intended for caring for dogs.

A common household cat
Cat - common
Cats are quiet, alert, clean and cute. They are preferred by people who do not want to see the excessive movements of dogs that equals to more food being consumed and more times being cleaned. Not to mention how cute kittens are!

Chicken - common
Those people that cannot just avail of other pets may buy a chick for $0.25, let it eat chicken feed for a month for just $0.50 and give it supplements or medicine for another $0.25. In short, they are cheap pets.

Pigeon - uncommon
Pigeons are usually tamed as pets by young adult Filipino men. They are preferred by people who want obedient yet independent pets that can go for miles and return safely.

Mouse - uncommon
Pet mice are cute. They somehow require less care than the hamster. People really do not like to take black mice as pets though.

Hamster - uncommon
Hamsters are cute, but they are difficult to care for unless the owner is experienced. They require sturdy (and somehow expensive) cages so that they would not join household pests such as rats and cockroaches.

Parrot - uncommon
Parrots are colorful and funny birds. They can enliven up a quiet neighborhood, and may entertain passersby. They can be taught to repeat a phrase when a specific person arrives in the house.

Fish - uncommon
The word "fish" is indeed a general category for animals, but some homes have aquariums which have a lot of different species of fish living together. They may greatly differ in size; one may be a thousand times smaller than the biggest fish in the same aquarium. Fish feed are only available in pet shops.

Sparrow - rare
Known by the Filipinos as the maya, sparrows are small but intelligent birds capable of understanding human actions and taking care of other birds. The big challenges of having a pet sparrow lies during the search for an egg, taking intensive care of it as a baby (because it is supposed to be taken care of by the mother sparrow) and protecting it from larger predators throughout its lifetime.

Rabbit - rare
There are very few households having pet rabbits. In fact, they are more abundant in pet shops than in homes in Philippine cities. They require great amounts of maintenance. They may be as big as some dogs but they generally do not develop relationships with humans.

An animal being a pet means that it has the right to live comfortably and should never be intentionally hurt.
